What To Wear And Take To A Dog Show

Dress For The Weather

When planning what to wear to a dog show you must take into consideration some important factors;

  • Weather - If its an outside dog show with no wet weather facilities be prepared for rain, wind, and sun shine. We are in England and you must be prepared for all weather.
  • Practicality - You will need to be able to walk, run and bend down in whatever you wear.  Comfy shoes are a must.
  • Colour - The colour of your clothing must compliment your dog, as detailed below.

Do not wear

  • Anything too revealing. You do need the judge to focus on your dog.
  • Floaty skirts or long jackets. These can flap in the dogs face when moving.
  • Shoes that you can't run in. No heels, flip-flops or slippery soles.

At this particular show, we got drenched on the Saturday and sunburnt on the Sunday, Thank you Alison for this picture.

Colours

Although it is your dog that is being judged on its presentation, what you wear will play a big part in what the judge can see. If you wear the wrong colour your dog will blend into your clothing and the judge will not be able to see the outline of your dog. You should wear a colour that compliments your dog. As seen in the pictures on the right.

From a judges point of view, if you wear something that stands out, the judge will remember you. When judging a large breed class the judge may remember you as 'lady in blue' or 'orange trousers' or 'stripy top' etc.

Remember To Take With You

Just a few things you need to remember to take with you.

  • Ring Clip
  • Passes (if a championship show)
  • Poo Bags
  • Show Lead
  • Water and Bowl for your dog
  • Grooming equipment
  • Bait and Bait Bag (If needed)
  • Chairs (foldable camping chairs)
  • Dog Cage or Crate
  • SatNav
  • Your Dog !!!!

And with recent events

  • Several Face Masks
  • Hand Sanitiser
