When entering a dog show your schedule will show what classes are available to enter. FosseData will bring up what classes your dog is eligible to enter based on its age and breed.
At a Championship show, I would always enter my dog in its age specific class. Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior & Yearling. This means you are competing against dogs the same age and maturity as yours. If your dog is over 2 years old and hasn't won a CC, I would enter in Novice or Post Graduate. Although the 'Open' class is open to all, this is the only class that the top winning dogs / Champions can enter and so competition will be tough.
Don't feel you need to enter lots of classes. In the breed, if you win your first class and get beaten in the second class, you cannot go in the challenge for Best Dog or Best of Breed.
Please note, not all of these classes are always available at shows.
If you don't have Breed specific classes you can enter AVNSC - Any Varity Not Separately Classified. AVNSC is different to AV. The winner of AVNSC will go through to the group, AV will not.
Below is a list of the more popular dog show class listings that you would find at an Open show or Championship show. For more information, please refer to your show schedule.
